Poor judgment is a characteristic of even the best and smartest of men

And apparently Greek and Hebrew gods. Our judgment is so poor that even when we write stories about our betters, the gods, beings whom we worship, we inevitably bestow upon them our own bad judgments.

By contrast, how impressive is a really just human judge – how wise, how fair, how unemotional his judgements. How interesting and unusual it would be for a wise and just human judge to write a story about the divine judge – we probably would not recognize its wisdom and perspicacity. We might even laugh at the folly of the divine judge, so poor is our own judgment.
