The optimal level of a nutrient in the diet is that which supports optimal levels in each of at least 4 body compartments:
- The gut – nearly everyone ignores the requirements of the gut
- The circulatory system, which supplies #3 and #4.
- The urinary system – nearly everyone ignores the requirements of the kidneys, bladder, ureter, etc.
- The rest of the body – and this of course can be broken down into separate and unequal requirements.
