Every process in biology has a speed limit

and this has metabolic consequences, when something that we are doing requires a response to run at or slightly faster than its natural speed limit.

Example: gross overconsumption of foods with added sugar and fat by those with negligible sugar demand and serious insulin resistance, and the over-stimulation of the rate of synthesis of insulin and especially amylin to meet this challenge in a person whose response to insulin has been blunted and whose muscle and liver demands for sugar are nearly non-existent.
