The correct order of the two goals Re: problems of any well-run system, including of course healthcare systems. Our systems are just the opposite. We do not prevent, do not detect problems early, and fix them cheaply. Our poorly run system focuses on “quick fixes” (like most pills in healthcare) that only appear to work, while ignoring serious side effects, and long-term, expensive treatments of problems that cannot work because the problems are no longer reversible by present technology.
Applied to healthcare, “early detection” means detection in the readily reversible phase of the medical condition or illness. Treatment is facile and not too expensive.
