The war on cancer has been as big a bust as the war on poverty and the war on terror. Direct approaches are sub-optimal in our intrinsically complex world in which desirable things are most often indirect consequences.
Most cancers are preventable with lifestyle alterations, including of course better nutrition.
How can better nutrition compete with all of the taste-optimized foods of little nutritional value that are in part responsible for the cancers?
They can’t – not at present.
I would fund a program to make nutritious food taste much better, that is, to make taste-optimized nutritious foods, and to make them widely available at reasonable prices. If people eat them, their health will improve, and most cancers could be avoided.
