Homocysteine as a marker for heart disease

1. Elevated homocysteine in blood is a marker for increased likelihood of cardiovascular disease (CVD), every bit as good as elevated total cholesterol.

2. Elevated homocysteine implies that the person is probably not taking supplements, because addition of vitamins B6, B9, and B12 generally quickly reverses the elevation of homocysteine in blood.

3. The addition of the vitamins, however, does not lower the risk of atherosclerosis, but does kill the usefulness of homocysteine as a marker or risk factor.

4. Why?

5. Doctors have not dealt with the underlying major sources of atherosclerosis. These deficiencies underlie many other diseases so common among us un-primitives and so rare among well-nourished, well-adjusted primitive peoples.

6. A person with elevated homocysteine who also responds to vitamin therapy is not eating properly. In addition to the deficient vitamins are many missing co-nutrients of the vitamins and other unrelated conditionally essential nutrients. These of course are not supplemented. Proper nutrition is essential to prevent atherosclerosis for a normal human lifetime.

7. A person who is not eating right is almost certainly stressed – they seek comfort food for a good reason. The psychological stressors must be alleviated to prevent CVD. Good luck doing this – psychiatry is the weakest and most underdeveloped part of medicine.

8. A person who is stressed is also not sleeping properly.

9. A person who does not eat or sleep properly is not getting anywhere near enough exercise. Exercise is critical for cardiovascular health.

10. Deficiency on top of deficiency on top of deficiency – without removing these deficiencies expect little progress combating CVD and many other diseases.
