We institutionalize schizophrenics with delusions of grandeur

In the ancient world, Moses, the prophets, Jesus, Paul, Mohammed, and so many others claimed to hear voices, and they had major league delusions of grandeur. Today they would most likely be institutionalized as delusional schizophrenics.

No so in the ancient world, a world of ignorant, gullible, superstitious people. Today most people are just as superstitious (look at the incredible popularity of Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, the Twilight series, and Game of Thrones), but some of us at least are not so ignorant and gullible – and we have science to thank for that.

Why do so many people profess belief in the messages of these ancient delusional schizophrenics? Is it that they are still sufficiently superstitious? Do these beliefs go hand in hand with beliefs in miracles (violations of conservation laws), witches, werewolves, zombies, vampires, wizards, and dragons?

Man is totally amazing.
