Metabolic syndrome and possible over-medication

If metabolic syndrome really is just one syndrome manifesting as a diverse collection of symptoms, then is not treating the weight problem, the diabetes, the high blood pressure, and high cholesterol an over-medication problem?

An analogy: suppose someone has Cushing’s syndrome, is misdiagnosed by his doctor, and is treated for weight gain, chronic pain, insomnia, depression, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, and acne. Is this not be a clear example of over-medication?
